HERMAN STREET ART CLUB (PHILLY ONLY)

Herman Street Art Club is a mobile arts program that builds and creates a community of creativity and fun, live, virtual learning activities, and some in-person experiences based in Philadelphia PA.
  • Geared to young people 8 - 13 years of age with mixed-age or grouped age activities for individual families or groups
  • Offers a wide variety of program modules, developed for families or individual participants to engage from home
  • Centers creative problem solving - combining found objects with our material "Art Packs," sent or delivered directly to homes by HSAC teaching artists'.
  • After completing a 90 - 120-minute online session, introducing a material, a concept, and practicing together, young artists can carry on the work between sessions, according to interest, speed, and imagination.
  • Space is provided for artists to focus on going deep with their project, making multiples, or using as an anchor to create a masterpiece.

DESCHOOLING ISSA THING GLOBAL MEETUP

A global, monthly, virtual meetup for caregivers who are committed to exploring ways to shift their parenting practices. We will focus on liberatory approaches that center healing and learning as a lifestyle as well as explore the impact and intersection of parenting, education, and race.

When stepping into anything new or outside of our comfort zones, a transition period is always a good way to go. We see it in so many areas, taking on a new job position, getting to know someone, sending our young people to school or not school and much more. The idea that there is a predefined timeline to decondition and acclimate oneself to a new learning pathway is schoolish is itself. If you decide to join our group, we'll get into what schoolishness means and how it shows beyond the walls of colonized education.
