Deschooling: It's A Thing
Global Meetup!

Thank you for your interest in joining our meetup!

Before you join our waitlist, please read our group policy to ensure that this meetup suits your needs.
  • The Deschooling: ISSA Thing Meetup is BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Colored) centered. This means that our group is centered on respecting and amplifying the black and brown voices of our group.
Non-BIPOC folks are welcomed, specifically those who are:
  • Parents of Black and Brown children
  • Creating or currently engaged with groups or organizations with black and brown community members
  • Committed to Deschooling their parenting practice with an openness to sit with and listen to BIPOC members who choose to speak about the harmful impact of race/racism in their practice.
This also includes invitations to “Call-in” Non-BIPOC folks into the space, if those boundaries are not honored or communication in the chat and/or voice is identified as racially biased (overt or covert) language.

We intentionally say “Call-IN” instead of “Call-OUT” because these moments, though unfortunate, become a real-time learning opportunity to respectfully explore the harmful impact of racism, ways it shows up in our daily living with an opportunity to pivot toward deeper understanding and healing through restorative approaches. These moments are never easy for all involved but in the words of James Baldwin, “Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced."

  • Everyone who completed the sign-up form will have an opportunity to join the next meetup

  • After two consecutive occurrences of “No Call/No Show” will result in your spot being offered to our waitlist participants and removal from IG private group
